About Cyprus

Cyprus, the island that the goddess of beauty Aphrodite was born according to mythology, is a country that has been an official member of the European Union since 1st of May 2004.
It is situated in the eastern Mediterranean with an area of about 9,251 sq. km. Cyprus has a very good Mediterranean climate with about 330 sunny days a year. The light rainy season is usually the period between November to March.

Cyprus under its constitution, is an independent and Sovereign Republic with a presidential system of government and its economy is based on the free enterprise system. The official language of the island spoken by Greekcypriots (the majority of residents of Cyprus) is Greek with English widely spoken. Translation services are also available for a wide variety of other languages.

Cyprus is characterized by the hospitality and friendliness of its residents with crime almost non-existent and also by the high quality of business, telecommunication and transportation infrastructure it offers with reliable banking institutions and government service departments.

Cyprus currently as the eastern gateway of European Union (EU) located at the crossroads of major international trade routes between Europe, Asia and Africa offers the ideal opportunity for European Union inbound and outbound investment. This complements the traditional links Cyprus has had with Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, India and China. Traditionally (due to strong political and economic relations with all of these countries and the favorable tax system with double tax treaties that currently exist) investment to those countries was channeled through Cyprus.
